Danny's Song

He'd play the “Orange Blossom Special” and he'd play “The Devil's Dream”
He'd hang in the air a melody like a barroom full of smoke
That bow would be going like lightning and his foot would be pounding on the floor like thunder
But I guess someplace in there a string just broke
And I remember well that night at the end of the tenth line
We were sitting by the water….. must have been a quarter after four
And he pulled out his old fiddle and started playing
The wind wasn't blowing but all the trees were swaying
And Danny was tickling the moon with the tip of his bow
That tune he was playing I forgot the name
But I'd give my guitar right now to hear it played that way again

But nothing lasts forever and I guess that's just the way things go

But we've all gotta keep on dancing even though the fiddlers packed up and gone home

There's a fiddle in a box in my closet it doesn't ever stay in tune
But he'd rosin the bow and tune it up best he could then saw that sucker right in two
I'm gonna keep it that box in my closet and take it with me when I go to the promise land
And when I see him there I'm gonna ask him if he'll play that song for me again
Seems like an awful waste though don't it?
But I never did get too good anyways on it
I guess there ain't word's good enough for a friend that's passed on
And even if there were I don't think you could fit them all into one song
